On Mally’s Alleged Heresy: A Reply

چکیده
In this paper, I respond to critics who claim that E. Mally’s distinction between two modes of predication, as it is employed in my theory of abstract objects, is reducible to, or analyzable in terms of, a single mode ofobjects, is reducible to, or analyzable in terms of, a single mode of predication plus the distinction between nuclear and extranuclear properties. I argue against these claims by developing counterexamples to the reductions and analyses. I also offer reasons for thinking that no such reduction/analysis could be successful.

Ernst Mally's Deontik (1926)
In 1926, Mally proposed the first formal deontic system. As Mally and others soon realized, this system had some rather strange consequences. We show that the strangeness of Mally’s system is not so much due to Mally’s informal deontic principles as to the fact that he formalized those principles in terms of the propositional calculus. If they are formalized in terms of relevant logic rather th...

متن کاملReply to Comment on “ Hara ’ s theorem in the constituent quark model ”
In the preceding Comment it is alleged that a " hidden loophole " in the proof of Hara's theorem has been found, which purportedly invalidates the conclusions of the paper commented upon. I show that there is no such loophole in the constituent quark model, and that the " counterexample " presented in the Comment is not gauge invariant.
